People believe in God because the scriptures tell us in (Romans 1:18-21) that God put the knowledge of Himself within us. I can testify to this truth.Yet, believing in God and knowing God are two different things.
I grew up in a family where our parents didn't talk about or mention God, ever (unless profanity counts).
My family didn't go to any church, we didn't read or discuss the Bible and we surely didn't belong to any religion. My home was as godless as could be.
Yet as far back as the age of five, I innately knew there was a "maker" or Creator. I'd thought of Him as "the guy who made everything."
I remember being curious to meet and know Him, and had no doubts I could. I had questions for Him too, which I began throwing up at Him from the start.
I've had a hard time with people who claim they don't believe in God's existence. All the arguments at religious discussion forums never seem to confront the above scripture reference.
God put the knowledge of Himself within us. I always tell them this in the forums. I tell them that we all have this innate knowledge of God's existence (A Creator), but what we do with that knowledge, is our choice.
What do people do with this inner knowledge?
I've rubbed elbows with all different types of people in my offline and online life. I've spent many years at discussion forums and debates.
I have surmised that some people simply have no interest in the "God" issue, and they put the subject somewhere on a back burner, living their lives never really giving it much thought, if at all. Others would be violating their religions to come to Jesus.
Then, there are those who are born into or join world religions in attempt to connect with God. Others become so confused, they aren't sure what to think. Many try to "erase" God from existence by gathering information and data to support this position.
Finally, there the few who go with this inner knowledge of God and seek to meet and know Him with their entire hearts. These are the ones who are confronted with Jesus and are spiritually reborn.
When I've told atheists I met Jesus in 1977 in a surprise encounter which changed my entire life in less than 5 minutes, they've told me it was a "hallucination".
I tell them - if it was a hallucination, then it's the only one I've ever had, and my relationship with Jesus (the "hallucination"), has lasted for 34 years... only becoming better over time. I tell them - if it was a hallucination, then I recommend it to everyone!
