With the highly anticipated release of Apple’s new iPhone 4G comes the release of the new iPhone OS 4, which will be available as a free download for all existing iPhones.  The newest operating system will incorporate many of the features of the new iPhone onto the older ones.  There will be some exceptions to this, but most of the new features will be able to be added to existing phones by simply installing the new operating system.

The newest operating system will add more than 100 new features to the iPhone,enriching the experience and adding new tasks for it to perform. One of the biggest and most asked for new additions is the ability for true multitasking, something that existing iPhone users have been asking to be added for a very long time.  By simply double tapping the home button, the multitasking system will be activated allowing the user to easily switch between multiple applications, both third party and Apple.  This will greatly improve the usability and functionality of the iPhone.

The camera will also be upgraded with a 5x zoom allowing for even better photos.  The new iPhone 4G will also have the ability for video calls due to the addition of a second camera on the front of the phone.  However, this feature will only be available on the new model iPhones, not the older ones.  It will also be possible to shoot videos with the camera, and tapping the screen will tell the camera where you want to place the focus while shooting.  This will make it even easier to take great videos with the iPhone.

Other changes involving the home screen will include the addition of folders to place your applications in.  This will help to better organize the contents of the iPhone, especially when many applications are installed on the phone.  It will also be possible to personalize the iPhone even more by changing the wallpaper, not only on the lock screen as can be done now, but also on the actual home screen as well.  Icons can also be added to the home screen for websites that are frequently visited by simply loading the site in safari, selecting the “+” and choosing add to home page, allowing for even easier and quicker access to them.

The existing mail program has also been improved allowing for messages from all accounts to show in a single in box instead of having to switch back and forth between accounts to access messages.  This will help save time and trouble when multiple mail
