How bloggers can use podcasts

Blogging and Podcasting are really not that much different from podcasting and Video Podcasting. There is a level of complexity increase in each of them, and more equipment is needed as you move up but if you can do one well there is a good chance you can at least learn to do the others well. And so if you are a blogger how can you use podcasts to improve what you do.

The first thing is that you do not necessarily have to start a Podcast in order to get use out of them. The most basic is of course to listen to them. If you’re writing a blog about something the odds are not bad that someone is podcasting about it and simply getting more ideas is always useful for a blogger especially those of us who write every day.

Moving beyond that is the networking abilities of podcasts. Like blogging there are very few people who are making any money running a podcast and even those who are could probably be making more money doing something else. This means that they like the subject and are interested in spreading the word. Many of them are even quite willing to plug your blog if they believe it is well done, especially if you link to their site. Simply email them telling them you’ve linked and are interested in working with them.

The next step beyond that is going to be voice mail. Most podcasts have a voicemail line and they all love getting feedback and if you know the subject well enough to blog about it you’re the person they want calling. Don’t  forget to give your website at the end.

Depending on the subject there is a good chance that anyone doing a podcast would love to have either a cohost for the occasional episode or a segment done and edited by someone else that they can put out. Make sure you have at least as good a quality of audio as they do before you spend too much time talking to them. This may not always work out but it is a good step before the last one.

If you really like your subject a podcast is a great way to drive traffic to your blog so you may consider starting your own. If you do be aware it takes a lot of time and effort as well as good quality audio recording to be successful but a good podcast can draw a lot of traffic to a site and may be the next logical step.
