Exercise and the art of 'pole dancing'

by Margaret Compeau

Created on: June 16, 2010

In the past pole dancing was frowned upon. When someone thought of pole dancing they thought of strippers in smoky, shoddy bars. Today it’s one of the best ways to get tone and release steam from the previous day’s activities. It’s a sexy and fun way to shed those unwanted pounds. Nobody will think any less of you – especially your significant other.

When Sheila Kelley started distributing pole dancing classes to the public a new exercise regimen was born. People from all over wanted to know how to get the sexy curves with the added bonus of an abundance of self confidence. The idea took off. Soon everyone was opening their own pole dancing studios. The days of pole dancing being seen as a dirty and unkempt thing was over.

Pole dancing gives you an all body workout. It will hit those trouble spots and the trouble spots you didn’t even know existed. You are using all of your body weight to slide up and down the pole. So instead of lifting 20lbs and working your way up to your own body weight you, you use all your body weight to sculpt lean muscles and lose body fat.

There are websites now where you can buy poles that are easily inserted into a bedroom of your home. Amazon and FlirtyStripperPole are just a few websites that carry stripper poles. Prices vary depending on the type of pole you want to get. You can also buy kits, which can range from $250 and up in price.

Pole dancing is a slow process with fluid movements. It is not meant to be hurried. The slowness of the dance and movements allow a woman’s curves to be more prominent.  The ancient Egyptians used pole dancing to put their subjects into a trance of mystical awe. Pole dancing was thought to be a grace of beauty back in Egyptian times. A lot of cultures saw it as a sign of fertility. Today pole dancing is seen more of an exotic dance. The old beliefs still ring true in some cultures today.

Pole dancing is not an easy feat to accomplish by any means. It takes stamina, strength, perseverance. If you stick with it than you will soon have a new confidence in you that you didn’t know existed. You’ll see changes in your body that you never even dreamed was possible. So, keep going to those classes if you want the ultimate confidence booster.
