Starting a family is a really big deal. It will completely change your life for ever and is not a decision that should be taken lightly.  Its important that you talk with your wife or girlfriend and together make that decision.  Its also important that you as a potential father look at your girl and decide if you really think that she is ready for motherhood.  I am not saying that you make this decison all on your own but think about who she is and her character.  It can be tricky to decide if you want to have kids with her right now but there are a few ways that you can really gauge her interest and her potential maternal instincts.

1. Buy her a pet:  Pets like dogs are good because they tend to react in some of the same ways as human children. They will bond to her and will react to her depending upon how she interacts with them.  If she is nurturing, loving, protective and wonderful to the dog chances are that she will be to her own offspring as well. You must realize though, that this is not a science experiment and you must be willing and able to devote the time and care into a dog. Please do not buy one only to give it away once you have made your decision this is very cruel.

2. See How She Acts With Babies: Do you have a family member that have children? Volunteer to babysit them and take your girl along, if she is excited to go with you and is very attentive to the needs of the children then chances are she will be a great mother. Now please understand that if these are childrent hat she has never met she will be a little on the hesitant side. That is perfectly natural, what you are looking for is how eagerly she joins in the entertainment and how quickly she bonds with the kids and how they take to her. You can find out a lot about her by taking a few trips like this.

3. How Does She Act Out in Public: Take stock of how your girl acts every time she sees a baby in public. What about on television, does she talk non-stop about when she gets to have children? Does she eargly get involved when a friedn is having a baby? Just watch her when your out together. Her actions around children will tell you what she is likely to be towards them. 

4. Talk To Her:  Guys there is no better way to find out if she will make a good mother then to talk to her about it. Talk to her about whether or not she wants children. How was she raised? Was she abused or did she have a good childhood. Many times your girl will tell you right out whether or not she is ready for children. Some women can't wait to have kids, others are more hesitant. It all depends on your girl and how she feels. You also need to express to her your desires to have children. If you are ready and she isnt then you will need to work through that.

It's really hard to tell whether or not your girl will be good mother material. If you're young and newly married, take time for your wife to truly be ready. Talk to her and get her feedback. If she is unsure, then suggest that the two of you start a family with a puppy first. A puppy is a lot like a child and is a great addition to any loving and caring home, even if you decide not to have kids. The same really applies with yur girlfriend too. You need to decide if yu intend to marry her or not.  You need to talk with her about what it is that you want and what her goals are too. The sooner you too are on the same page the better off you will be.
