How to make homemade chuck boxes

by Isaiah Grant

Created on: June 15, 2010

A camp chuck box serves as a storage holder for food and household appliances and utensils. To get an easy picture of what a chuck box is like, think of it as a mobile set of drawers that contain what you are taking to camp. Clearly no one is going to drive in a car to their campsite with a kitchen's set of drawers, would you? Owing to the limited space of your car, some campers have designed a box that can fit a set of utensils in it, able to stay with you as you travel along to camp.

The first thing you need to do is cut/chop pieces of wood that are at least twenty inches in height and are at least ten or fifteen inches wide in width. After you have accomplished that, you need to assemble the pieces of wood together into the form of a box, this box should be at least twenty inches tall in length and at least fifteen inches long in width.

The next thing you have to do, and this is an optional instruction, is to grab a hold of two pieces of wood and put them together so that when turned side on, there is a V shape. Once you get this, select a few more pieces of wood that are as long and can fit in the box altogether, really you will be making little sections in your box so you are getting like one section for forks, spoons etc. When you get the suitable length of wood that can fit inside the whole box, get a hammer and nails or driller, and nail the points into the wood to keep them together.

Now what you have to do, is nail everything together into one fantastic and useful box to keep your appliances and utensils in when out camping. Hammering and nailing is a simple task but children attempting this task should always be supervised in case of an incident of innappropriate use. On the other hand there is drilling, children should absolutely not be handling this item unless supervised by an adult.

The last thing you can do, and this is an optional task, is to paint the chuck box whatever color you want. You could even do patterns around the entire box for more eye catching and appealing appearances.

In conclusion, making a chuck box is a good idea when plannig to go out camping. The main purpose of a chuck box is to keep your utensils safe when camping.
