Poetry: The old neighborhood

by Dan Hensley

Created on: June 14, 2010

Walking down this street

Brings me back in time

Speeding on my bike

Sun beating down on me

A sky that's clear and blue

The day was always new

Wafting through the air, countries from afar

Each house was something special

A treasure of the heart

No matter where you were

You could make yourself at home

Friends came by the dozen

No one was alone

Walking down this street

Still brings me back in time

When worry free I lived my life

Safe and sound each night

Every dream was right

Never out of sight

Had everything i wanted

And everything I liked

Back in this old neighborhood

Where everyone was kind

I lived out my old childhood

I knew I was alright

Favorite food is cooking

In the kitchen that we loved

Grandma's voice and spirit

Made life a precious treat

Walking down that street still brings me back in time

Though my home is not on that old street

That building holds my heart

I still love that old neighborhood

Where life was always good
