It’s sad to think that some would tell you committing suicide is a ticket to hell. When they should say “how can I help”? For someone to have sunk to the depths of despair that the only solution is to take their own life, you simply can’t stand in judgment of someone that truly needs help. Help is the answer not condemnation.
If someone commits suicide who has committed a crime or atrocity against humanity, then that would be a matter for God to decide. This would be the only time that suicide should be considered a cowardly act. God in his ultimate wisdom will decide the eternal fate of such acts.
The real question is would God punish you for taking your own life if you suffered from a mental condition, terminal disease or the like. If God is a forgiving God, then God would ultimately decide, no man can say what God will ultimately decide. Folks that would find no other solution than to commit suicide who are in mental anguish, who is anyone to judge that other than God? Until we have walked in the shoes of someone who suffers so deeply that the only solution they can see is suicide. Then who is anyone to judge what they truly do not understand. Suicide however is not the ultimate answer.
Suicide is never a viable solution. The wake suicide leaves is a river of despair and pain. Families left with terrible questions. “What could we have done”? “What did we not do”? The unanswerable questions pile up on the loved ones left in the wake of tragedy. Even though this article takes the position that God will not send you to hell for committing suicide, it does not give you license to do so. The flip side is no person on this earth with any real certainty can say God would or would not condemn you to hell. Because that question won’t be ultimately answered until someone tragically commits suicide.
More important than anything, is that if you suffer to the point of considering suicide. Your life does have meaning even though you can’t see it. Like all things in life, despair will pass. You simply need some help, and help is available. Contact the National Suicide Hotline; this is a great place to start. This article is not intended to presume God’s ultimate answer. It’s an opinion that God is a forgiving God in certain circumstances. To test his eternal judgment is not recommended. Perhaps to, asking God for help, placing your pain in God’s hands versus your own would be the best solution.
