Boyfriend jeans have been a fashion staple for a few seasons now so, in order to update your style, you’ll need to update your wardrobe with cuffed jeans. With summer approaching, now’s the perfect time of year to try out this new style. Whilst you can cuff any jeans, boyfriend jeans are a forgiving style that will suit all shapes and body styles so follow these simple steps and hit the streets in style this season.
Firstly, you’ll need to find a pair of jeans that flatter your body shape. Whether you’ve got a pair n mind already lurking at the back of your wardrobe or you need to hit the shops for a new pair of jeans, boyfriend jeans will give you a casual look. Your jeans need to be comfortable and flattering and stay in place without the need of a belt to ensure a perfect fit. We’ll come to belts later for accessorising, but make sure the fit is perfect first.
To cuff your jeans, you simply need to create a fold or two (depending on the original length of the jeans) so that the jeans now fall to just above your ankle bone. When you’re happy with the width and positioning of your cuff, simply iron into place for a neat finish. Alternatively, you can cheat and buy a pair of jeans that have been pre-cuffed ready to wear.
So now you’ve got the perfect cuffed boyfriend jeans, you need to assemble your outfit. Since boyfriend jeans tend to have a looser cut, team them with a fitted T-shirt. Plain bright colours are ideal for summer and can make a simple day to day outfit. For a dressier look, team your cuffed jeans with an embellished vest or fitted T, sequins, rhinestones and stud will take your look from day to night effortlessly.
For footwear, the most important thing to remember is to keep it simple. Ballet pumps and sandals are not only comfortable, but they’ll also compliment your look. Whilst some people may suggest otherwise, heeled sandals with cuffed jeans are a big no no. This is a casual look and heels just look clompy and awkward next to a casual pair of cuffed jeans. If you are looking to dress your look up, try a pair of sandals with some sequins or bling. And if you really want to be bang on trend, add some flat gladiator sandals to your cuffed jeans.
If you do want to dress up your cuffed jeans then the only way to do this is with accessories. Try a thick tan leather belt and ethnic jewellery for a boho look. Or channel your inner 80s child with some bold monochome jewellery and big black sunglasses.
Once you’ve found your niche, you might want to try cuffing other pairs of jeans. Just make sure you try it in the comfort (and safety!) of your own home before strutting your stuff in public. Cuffed skinny jeans will only suit the slenderest of physiques whilst bootleg and flared jeans tend to look messy and awkward when cuffed. But once you’ve cuffed your boyfriend jeans and customised an outfit or two, you won’t want to switch jeans for the rest of the summer!
