Poetry: Lies

by Volecia Plafcan

Created on: June 14, 2010

I wish I could have seen

your face when you told me

"I love you"

I just know you were winkng

at the girl all dressed in blue

and when you said

what pretty legs I had

at that dinner party that night

you were playing tootsies

with that woman on your right

you said I was the only one

then wasn't that I saw

those two women clinging to you

back in Saginaw

You promised me you'd pay me back

if to you I'd loan

a portion of my savings

so you could build a home

for us to live and raise some babes

I knew something was oh, so wrong

when you called me from Rome

I hate to say this to you

but, I don't believe a word you say

that business deal  that fell in Rome

was just another way

of telling me another whopper

so you could once again prey

on this old fool who really cared

but, you are just a liar

so carry on your way

until you're caught by someone's son

who grabs you by the throat

and that living, lying tongue

flies out from his frenzied choke
