It is 1985 and in America we see a group of Superheroes living ordinary lives as the President declared a ban on them. They are struggling to keep their powers in check and when one of the old heroes gets murdered Rorschach sets out to try and find out why the killer is. He seeks the help of fellow heroes but none of them see too interested.
Rorschach does make headway but only when he enlists the help of an old friend. Meanwhile the Government is in crisis talks as Russia are planning to set off their nuclear weapons and they think that Mr Manhattan is the only person who can help them.
Rorschach comes together with his friends and they are soon hot on the tail of the murderer but in the process they uncover a much bigger and sinister plan. Will they be able to uncover the murderer and also stop Nuclear war from happening?
I know that this film has only really had bad reviews, but hubby still really wanted to see it. Reluctantly, I did agree but I did make him wait until the price of the DVD had dropped before buying. I can honestly say that I do agree with the previous reviews and I think that I have just wasted nearly 2 ½ hours on my life trying to follow and make sense of this utterly rubbish film.
The storyline to the film could have been very good if it had been explained and laid out much better. There were a lot of flashbacks to the time when the Superheroes were popular and working for good, but this was not pointed out very well and I did keep losing track of what they were trying to tell us and explain with the flash backs.
The superheroes which we did see seemed to have a very child like appearance, to both me and hubby their costumes and appearance was one of what a child would design if asked to and they looked quite comical. I did think that the creators were trying to take the film back to the comic book side of superheroes but this did not work and really did take away the fact that the characters were in fact supposed to be powerful people. The main character of the film was Rorschach, but he was quite a complex man who I found it hard to understand. His mask was very strange and at times he did look quite freaky. His voice really did drive me up the wall and at times it was quite similar to that which Christian Bale used when dressed as Batman.
There were a lot of character in the film including a blue man, a woman who did not get on with her mother and a man who was supposed to be the cleverest on the planet. I have to apologise,
