Making your own website is really easy and can be done for free. Especially if this is your first website, there is no reason to spend upfront money. There are many ways to start for free and then you can move the site over to a paid website later. Websites can even be easily designed off the internet and then latter moved onto the internet, this will require a little more technical skills but with step by step directions it is very easy.
Google Sites:
Google Sites is a great place to start with your first web page. You can design a whole web site and have it posted online with minimum technical skills. You don’t have to know html. It more of a click here, insert here type program. My wife first started making web pages with Google Sites. Freelancing world was her first web site about writing online. Not have any other experience expect for using blogger for blogs, she was able to have the site up and running in just day.
To start using Google sites simply go to www.google.com. On the left side with be a button that says more. Click on the more button. On the list will be a button called sites. If you have a Google account sign in, if not sign up for free. You will then be directed to the “my sites” page. Click create new site. Simply fill in the information and choose a template. The template can be changed later if needed.
The best way to learn Google sites is with a little bit of playing around. Test it out and give it a try. If you need help there is a help button or you can find more help with a Google search. There are forum posts for help from previous users.
A large plus for Google sites is that they allow you to put Google Adsense into the site, thus making more money for you and for them. Many free web sites do not allow you to put in your own adverting because the ads are how they make money off of your web sites.
Other Ways
Offline you can create html files with many programs. Html is the language used for web pages. On wikipedia there is a nice list of programs that can be used to make html. Instead of writing in html code you can make the web page as you see it and then the programs can convert it into html codes. The list is at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_HTML_editors
After using one of the programs to make the pages; you need to load it to a web hosting. Google sites are like a web hosting but has limit to what you can do. Many other free sites also limit to what a web page can do. You can find many web hosts by doing a simple search with almost any search engine. Web hosting can be any where to free to and up. Carefully read through the terms to make sure the web page can do what you want it to do. For example if you plan to have ads with Google Adsense; then you want to make sure that the web hosting terms allows it.
