There is no fool proof way to predict a slot machines' behaviour, but here are some pointers I have picked up as a frequent slot machine player.

What's the trick to a slot machine? In all honesty, you can tell a charactertistic of a machine within the first twelve spins. For example, if a machine does not allow you to win on anything within twelve spins, move on. If a machine tempts you to stick around by showing signs of hitting the jackpot but does not give you dime, move on. If you are betting on max that puts in five credits at a time and all you keep getting are two credit cherries, move on. If you made over a hundred credits and then realize that you are back to square one after putting that hundred credits back into the machine, move on. Good machines will keep your credits at a healthy amount for you to continue playing.

Slot machines take a lot of patience. Slot machines are random. They are all programmed to win at different times for different reasons. One machine may be programmed to have a higher payout because it is in area with higher traffic, another machine may be programmed to payout when it reaches a certain amount of money played.

Try to keep in mind the twelve spin rule the next time you visit a casino and see if the payouts are different from your own personal playing style.
