Before Dawn
On a bright and eager morning she left this world before dawn
as the light came across the great horizon that dotted the Atlantic ocean
and the tide came across the fragrant sand,
that spoke to the minute moments that were gone far too soon.
On a lovely day, the machines that echoed patiently in the cold white room
were silent, so quiet before a dawn that will never again be seen in the same vain,
for my life would never again be whole.
Her words, scoffed at so many times ring so true
as memories replace shared fulfilling times
when her gentile hands engulfed mine and let me know
that no matter how difficult things could be,
a mother's love was stronger than all the evil suspicions.
Before dawn, I walk the endless Boardwak alone and broken
seeking answers that seem to be beyond a sky of intense blue,
Before dawn my eyes cried a world of tears and my soul shattered
in a million pieces that I slowly stooped down to pick them up to
fulfill a promise that is ages old and forever beyond my reach,
like the gilded gold rings that evaded me on the merry-go-round
of a tossed and turned dawn..
