Once so very far away
I never thought I’d see the day
When turning 40 was so near
And time is suddenly oh so dear
Will I get grey hair overnight ?
Or start to have trouble with my sight
And as my wrinkles start to grow
Does my gait suddenly slow ?
Can I still wear jeans and trainers
Or only flannel and wooly jumpers
And when the kids all look at me
Will they just see some old fogey.
Stiffening joints and aching back
Will my younger boss give me the sack
Pipe and cocoa now where’s my slippers
Is it really all downhill from here
Of course its not I’ll be the same
Treating it as one big game
“Life’s to short” its true they say
A new adventure every day
My children have reopened my youth
I can fly kites and read Dr Seuss
Sandcastles and paddling in the sea
Turning 40 means absolutely nothing to me

I look like my dad..
I tend to move quite slowly now,
and find aches when I do,
I find that stairs are murderous,
and toe nails
Feeling sad cause you're turning 40?
I'm twice that now and feel young and sporty.
I walk two miles most every day.
I do chores,
