In order to emphasize your positive areas and draw attention away from your negative features, it's important to direct the eye of the onlooker to where you want it to go. The best way to create emphasis is to strategically place a specific piece of jewellery that you want to wear in the desired area.
For example, if your best feature is your collarbone, and you'd like to draw attention to this area, try wearing a highly decorated crystal necklace with a basic black dress. Wearing a simple black dress with an ornate crystal necklace creates an expensive and elegant look. The necklace attracts attention as if to say, "Look at how special I am!" It subtlety frames the collarbone; while at the same time draws the eye toward the desired area.
If you have a long and elegant neck, and you'd like to accentuate it, try wearing a basic black, high turtleneck with a simple pearl choker. You would create a simple, yet classic look that is suitable for any occasion. Of course, wearing the wrong style of jewellery can also create many undesirable looks!
Everyone has a unique shape, size and bone structure. A combination of these elements plays an important role when determining which style of accessories suit us, and which styles don't. Here are a few suggestions for accessorizing a variety of body frames:
Petite - Under 5'4"
Women who fall within this height range need to add length to their frame, and draw the viewer's eye upward in order to create the illusion of a longer, leaner line. Wearing jewellery pieces that create the illusion of length are the best choices for you.
Necklaces
Women of petite stature look their best in collar length necklaces, and longer length necklaces. Necklaces that form the shape of a "V" are particularly flattering, especially if they fall below the bust-line and above the waist. Try to avoid "U" shaped necklaces that end at, or above the breastbone. These styles only tend to for-shorten your appearance, and they can make you look heavy. A necklace that falls below the waistline also for-shortens the height of a smaller frame, and draws the viewer's attention downward instead of upward.
Earrings
Geometric shaped earrings that sweep upward on the ear flatter a petite frame. Because the viewer's eye is directed upward, this creates the illusion of a longer, leaner line and taller frame. Full-figured petite
