Memoirs: Pain from love

I shall not forget you.

For the past year and a half, it has been you alone who has heightened my existence. I even hated you, once. When I hated you I loved you, and while I loved you I hated you for it.

For a short time during a fall afternoon, the sky is light enough that you can see the valley, and blue enough that it still feels like day. For only a few short moments one can observe the changing patterns and colours of the clouds, as they wash themselves over the horizon in a palette of oranges, pinks and purples. If you're lucky enough, you may be able to see a slight of moon as 'il se rve' beyond the dusty rose waves.

Orange subsides into rust; pink into red; and purple into blue. The colors fade and diminish and eventually what is left of the hazy day descends past tangibility. The moon seems to brighten and ascend, now, and one is left pondering today's sorrows and tomorrow's possibilities.

It is only for a few short moments the world seems to stop and look back at you. It is but minutes before day is consumed by night, light is consumed by dark, and beauty consumed by time.

Eventually, all ceases to exist and fades into the puzzle of existence.

It is at this moment we realize what we truly have loved - and lost.
