Directed by Chris Miller and Raman Hui Shrek the Third was released back in June 2007 and, strangely enough, this is the third movie in the Shrek saga.
With the king of Far Far Away on his death bed struggling to breathe, he calls his son in law, Shrek, over and informs him he is next in line for the throne. However, Shrek being the humble swamp loving ogre he is decides the royal lifestyle is not for him and learns that another family member, Arthur is permitted to take throne. However, there is a problem here in that Arthur is away at college and needs to be collected.
With his motley crew of his ever faithful Donkey and protector from the second movie in the series, Puss In Boots, Shrek boards a ship and sails off to find Arthur and inform him it is time to take the throne. As the boat sets sail Fiona drops a bombshell and yells she is expecting a child as the ship sails off in to the horizon.
Meanwhile, Prince Charming is stills seething and thinks that he is the rightful king of Far Far Away and won't rest until he manages to get the throne. Prince Charming rallies up the troops in the form of all the other 'mis-fits' and 'baddies' of the fairytale world and storms Far Far Away whilst Shrek the protector is absent.
Does Shrek find and convince Arthur to take his place as king of Far Far Away or will Shrek have to sacrifice his swamp and take the throne, or will Charming manage to steal the crown? Does Shrek and Fiona's offspring arrive safely? And where is the best place to raise a family?
This movie contains loads of characters, all of which require voice-overs. The main characters, and the actors/actresses responsible for the voice includes;
1. Shrek - Mike Myers
2. Fiona - Cameron Diaz
3. Donkey - Eddie Murphy
4. Puss In Boots - Antonio Banderas
5. Prince Charming - Rupert Everett
6. The Queen - Julie Andrews
7. The King - John Cleese
8. Arthur - Justin Timberlake
9. Captain Hook - Ian McShane
10. Merlin - Eric Idle
Despite being s huge fan of the first and second Shrek films I put off seeing this up until very recently. I had seen many trailers depicting the coming of the next generation, which I guess was to be expected. After all, we had seen the how Shrek and Fiona got together, their marriage so the next logical step was the creation of a family unit. This did not really appeal to me, so I thought I would give it a miss. However, after being forced in to watching Shrek the third I am quite disappointed I wrote it ff so early as it is an enjoyable
