2010 NFL predictions: NFC West

by Bruce Bostwick

Created on: June 11, 2010

NFC West is a division that needs to be assessed. The upcoming season is drawing near and it’s time to figure out who is going to win the NFC West. Honestly, it’s a division that may end up being one of the weaker divisions. There is no clear-cut winner to take the division and to claim it is someone’s division to lose. It could be two teams that could be above them but then again, anyone can contend. Without further or do, it’s going to be the NFC West.

St. Louis Rams
Once upon a time, they won a Super Bowl and haven’t won one since. It seems like the days of St. Louis have been turned into a joke. No longer are they are the franchise that they once were and stuck in rebuilding mode. With them, it’s a case of when are they going to pull themselves out of this funk? It’s just a matter of time but who knows when that will be. There is a good chance they will wind up in last place in the division. Anything higher would be a complete shock.

Seattle Seahawks
They are on the decline and to think a few years ago, they went to a Super Bowl. To expect the Seahawks to be a good team, it would be shocking. Hasselbeck may end up being done considering he hasn’t been himself and could be declining. The Seahawks are going to finish third and the only reason they probably won’t finish last is because of the St. Louis Rams.

San Francisco 49ers
The only other franchise that could challenge the Cardinals would be the 49ers. The main thought would have to be that they are improving piece by piece. Before anyone knows it, they could become a team that can contend for the post-season and possibly go beyond that. It’s going to be between them and the Cardinals and if they can manage to get over the hump, they can be a serious threat to the Cardinals but a second place finish would not be surprising.

Arizona Cardinals
Kurt Warner has retired and could very well just win the division by default. They have a new Quarterback likely to start in Derek Anderson and has a solid team. Is it a Super Bowl team? Maybe not but a team that could take the division and not have a great record being like 9-7 or something of that extent since they may not have the talent to win it all or have a better record. Expect a first place finish but the gap may not be extremely long since there may be one other team that could give them a run for their money.

The NFC West may seem clear-cut but as always, anything can happen in the NFL.
