The next division to be looked upon with the AFC will be the AFC South. It is a division that has been pretty much been a one-team division. Granted, there have been some exceptions with the Titans being one of the other teams to win that division. It’s a division that quite frankly is not really wide open and just pretty much an open and shut case. The reason for that thought has more to do with the simple fact that it’s just not that strong and a lack of competition. Sometimes it can be predictable but you never know each year.
Jacksonville Jaguars
They fell off the radar and could be the punching bag of the AFC South. They may have had a chance at one point to be a contender and maybe the window has been slammed shut to Jacksonville of being a contender. Then again, with the AFC South, you can finish .500 and still be in last place. Expect them to be a last place team until they decide they’re going to start looking like a winner instead of just constantly looking like a loser.
Houston Texans
All ready setting a franchise record for most wins, the Texans are going to be looking to gain some serious momentum in making themselves into a championship contender. The question will be about last season being a sign that they are going to progress or regress. For them to progress, they will have to win more games and possibly get into the post-season for the first time ever. However, they may not be able to take the division because of the Colts strangle hold on it. In another division, they might have had a chance but honestly it’s the AFC South and it’s the Colts division to lose. Expect a third place finish but possibly finish above .500 for the year.
Tennessee Titans
They finally made the right move in benching Kerry Collins. Collins had made a career out of having one good season, then getting a big contract only to not live up to it. The Titans will be a better team now that Collins is benched as they showed last season. However, it will not be enough to claim the division as they could very well finish in second place. Until they figure out to get past them and stay ahead of the game, it will continue to be the Colts division to lose.
Indianapolis Colts
Until they have been dethroned on a more regular basis or Peyton Manning retires, the Colts rule the division. It is their division to lose every single season. Of course, the post-season hasn’t been kind to them as they have been labeled the Atlanta Braves of the NFL. The team is just so strong and can win the division easily but as long as they don’t take games off, they might have a better shot at winning it all possibly. You never know for sure but the one thing that can be expected, the Colts will take the division.
With the NFL, anything is possible but most likely the AFC South can be described as a division that isn’t won by others but lost by the Colts. It would be stunning if someone else actually won the division.
