After high school graduation, those that wish to continue their education must choose either to moving away for college, or staying home and attending college. College is an opportunity to broaden one’s mind to new situations. In high school, our intellects weren’t as challenged as much as our popularity status was. Leaving the shelter of mom and dad can be a life altering experience. It can develop a person's social and networking capabilities as well as increasing tolerance. Although the college life seems glamorous, as with everything in life, there are downsides. However, only the positive arguments to moving away for college will be discussed.
In college, there is a more than likely chance that a person will run into someone that is from a different background and most likely, the person will be the dreaded dorm mate that every college freshman fears. However, the situation doesn’t have to be an uncomfortable one. Living with a complete stranger for a semester can be quite enlightening. There is no limit to what a person can learn from their dorm mate.
Living alone is a fact that everyone must face at one point in their lives. When one is in solitude, he or she can learn things about themselves that they’d never known. It creates a feeling of self confidence and responsibility because now, depending upon the situation, that person can’t rely on others to make up for their slack anymore. Learning to function outside of one’s comfort zone is a reliable asset to take into the working world after college.
In the present economy, most employers are now looking for those that possess a college degree as well as some career training. All colleges and universities have caught on to this and now have programs that allow students to work on their degrees as well as receive job training. Sometimes, some employers will take certification over a degree. Searching outside one’s home state for these programs can have a great advantage such as salary, because every state has different salaries depending upon how educated one is.
In conclusion, it would benefit more students to move away from college as opposed to staying home. However, only move away if it is within one’s means. There are multiple foundations that help students if they are short on finances. Scholarships and grants go a long way, so it is best to start applying early. There is nothing wrong with planning for the future even if it is light years away.
