In these difficult economic times, one thing that would be a Godsend would be to have the security of living in a location that you feel your job is safe and not subject to being laid off. That is what makes this list of the top ten cities for jobs so comforting for those that live within their confines. Being on here does not mean that these cities are necessarily booming in terms of new job creation or things of that nature. No, in some cases there have been slight increases in jobs, but the more important factor is that the jobs that are located there are staying instead of shrinking like most other areas of the country. 1. Austin-Round Rock, Texas (pop. 1,653,000)

Job growth: 0.32%
This city has a little bit of everything going for it. The fact that they are embracing the clean tech industry has opened them up to positions that will be around in the long run. They also can offer companies low business costs which have made them very attractive to IT companies as well. Combine that with a well educated work force that does not mind working for themselves and you have an excellent make up job wise for this Texas city.
2. Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood, Texas (pop. 379,000)

Job growth: 1.81%
It's major military base gives another Texas town its reason for being on this list, but don't think that Fort Hood or military people are the only thing that makes this city a great place to live and work. Certainly with Fort Hood being a major base where other bases are being consolidated to, it has helped to stabilize this city. However, the city also boasts many health care services jobs as well. Throw in Texas A&M is in the process of building a new major satellite facility, drawing work that is already strong from Central Texas College's strong enrollment and you can see why this area has moved up considerably.
3. Salt Lake City, Utah (pop. 1,116,000)
Last year's rank: 3
Job growth: -2.58%
Salt Lake City has actually experienced a slight decline in job growth, but it was nothing compared to other parts of the country. What keeps them on the list is that the jobs that are there are solid and not subject to going away for the most part. Throw in there the fact that Salt Lake was much more conservative
