Poetry: Travel

by Eileen Norman

Created on: June 09, 2010

            Travel Vision

A collage of my travel memories:

Paris, London, Lisbon, Prague

Beauty alive with history and art.

But by far the most awesome sight

The beaches and cross crowned cliffs

Of the bloody shores of Normandy.

A cliff face sheering from the ocean,

Point du hoc, where Texas Rangers

Climbed point blank into German guns.

Now, just empty bunkers on pitted earth

And beaches wave-washed bloodless

Under silent sentinels left behind.

Rows on rows on rows of white crosses

guarding green acres of sacred ground,

Old Glory whipping proudly in the wind.
