You need to have your resume stand out, and be noticed by the employer. Your resume must catch the attention of the employer right away. Resumes get turned down in about 10 seconds, many, many times.
Put together your resume in a way so that it screams out with action about you. You are selling yourself with your resume, and attempting to get yourself that job. You want the employer to choose you - above other job applicants. In your resume, state ways that you saved your previous employer money, or saved your employer time, or how you increased productivity for your employer. Use action verbs in your resume. Sell yourself to the employer with an action resume. In your resume, tell the employer that you are a take-charge person, who will get the job done for him or her.
Your resume should only be one or two pages in length. Employers won't spend a lot of energy nor time on reading a longer resume. Employers want to be able to find what they need quickly.
To really stand out and get noticed by an employer, you can also send the employer a hard copy of your resume. Send this hard copy to the employer right away. This will more than double your chances of getting noticed, and getting that telephone call from the employer.
Cover Letter:
Cover letters are still important today, and should be sent along with your resume. Employers aren't receiving as many cover letters as they did before. With electronic submission of resumes being so largely used, most job applicants submit their resume without submitting a cover letter.
A well written, cover letter will be noticed by an employer. A cover letter can help you get that job you want. Submit your cover letter along with your resume. Especially with electronic submission of your resume, you can submit a cover letter easily.
In your cover letter, begin with a powerful first paragraph about yourself. Have this action paragraph relate to the job at hand. Sum up your job relevant experience, your strengths that are relevant to the job, and your skills and accomplishments - that state you are a good choice for the job. Sell yourself quickly in the first paragraph of your cover letter. Your cover letter should be only one page in length. At the end of your cover letter, add your telephone number and your email address. This way, your telephone number and your email address will be right at hand for the employer - in the first lines of your resume, and in the last lines of your cover letter.
