This Time

I didn’t know what hit me.

I didn’t want to face the truth,

But I ran out of excuses;

These bruises came from you.

I tried to hide the obvious

From everyone I knew.

It happened time and time again,

Though I just could not see.

It was the same old story;

This can’t happen to me.

And each time I would tell myself,

This time would be the last.

But you would find more fury

At the bottom of your glass.

This time you don’t have to say you’re sorry.

This time I won’t hear you say it won’t happen again.

You won’t be there to put your arms around me when I cry.

Don’t tell me you love me;

All that’s left is goodbye.

I can’t stand to live like this.

You can’t replace my pain with your kiss.

I won’t take it any longer;

Now I’m wiser, now I’m stronger;

Strong enough to walk away from you.

I’ve stopped taking all the blame.

Tomorrow I’ll feel no more shame,

And I’ll be telling all our friends the truth
