Reflections: Thoughts on 2012

December 21, 2012. The end of the Mayan calender, as well as the end of the world. This was the prophecy the Mayans have believed. That once their calendar ended, with it the world as well. Should we be concerned about this? Are the things happening today really just coincidence? or is it the start of the cataclysmic event the Mayans have lived to believe.

January 12, 2010. A 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Haiti leaving 230,000 dead, 300,000 injured and 1,000,000 people homeless. An event that will be carved in the human minds for the remainder of the century, and possibly all throughout time. By 24 January, at least 52 aftershocks measuring 4.5 or greater had been recorded, causing more damage to the region.

April 7th, 2010. The earthquake, measured at 7.8 magnitude, is the second major temblor to have hit the Indonesian coast. Tsunami warnings were raised all over the area, hoping that they could prepare for the worst. During the last destructive tsunami that hit Indonesia back in 2004, it left a devastating memory of over 200,00 people killed.

Six months into the year 2010 and already a devastating number of people have been killed by calamities happening across the globe. Millions and millions of people are left homeless. Thousands and thousands are dead and injured. We can only hope and pray that things like this will never again happen on the planet we have come to call home.

27 Apr 2010. Another event the world will probably never forget. 42,000 gallons of oil are already in the water and the number is increasing rapidly, even as we speak. This isn't a natural calamity, but life as we know it is being affected in ways we cannot imagine. A large number of ocean species are already being threatened by the disaster. Birds of all kinds are powerless against the sticky oil that now wraps their wings. Mother nature is threatened greatly with an incident like this. Not only animals but humans as well. What will happen to our food and resources? They are being depleted at an alarming rate. What will happen to the life that has been affected by this tragic disaster? We are to blame for this. Though we did not wish it, an error we did not expect occurred, placing the blame entirely on the hands of the human race. It's still two years before 2012, but things are already getting way out of hand. is this all coincidence? Or is the universe finally charging us the toll we must pay for the damage we have done.

We must realize that the human race is already at it's knees begging mother nature for forgiveness. We did terrible things to her and now, we are paying the price. I only wish that the alignment of the planets that will take place on December 21st, 2012 is just a marvel that happens every few hundred thousand years and that it will not trigger the end of society as we know it. We are know placing our hands into destiny's hand and with it comes a question that will be answered two years from now.

"Will there still be a next generation?" We can only pray and hope that there will be. Join me, and the millions of people out there, different cultures, different beliefs and religions all united by a common thought. That the HUMAN RACE will continue on living...
