Poetry: Self-image

by Amy Ambrosini

Created on: June 09, 2010

I stand looking in the mirror

Do I pass the test will I blend and belong?

Out in public I go matching the styles of today.

I wonder as I look if anyone will see me?

I look good on the outside,

Strong and true. I stand up shoulders back.

My hair all in place make up clean and neat.

Clothes ironed, matching and new.

I wonder as I look, can they see me?

I look and see a smile on my face.

Emotions, doubts hidden neatly away.

Shoes and earrings, necklace and watch

Mascara and blush, purse and bag.

I wonder as I look, can they see me?

I look and see a women

Not any women but a mom,

A wife, daughter and sister.

I look and see me not these relationships.

I wonder as I look, can they see me?

I look and see the worry behind my eyes.

I see the sadness of being overlooked

The desire to be needed just for me

Wanting to be loved because that is who I am

I wonder, will any one see me today?
