Our interest or theirs? Celebrity and the Press
Article ToolsMany times the press generates interest in celebrities and buzz about them. Sometimes the press and the publics interest is quite different. But as with other subjects the press often decides for us who is of interests, and helps to generate an interest for us. Sometimes it's the fans that create the interest. Sometimes it's the movies. Sometimes it's the behavior of the celebrities that creates the press.
In addition, there is "spin." The press can place almost any type of spin on a celebrity based upon press likes and dislikes and bias. The darlings of the press often get the good spin. This is something that fans have to be aware of in celebrity journalism.
But often the press, as with "products," can create the interest for us. If we want to learn about others than celebrities, then certainly we have to go to genre magazines and newsletters, e.g. science magazines, literary magazines, etc.
