Israel’s Attack on the Freedom Flotilla Is a Call to Reign in the Brutal Zionist Regime
But Little Is Likely to Be Done
Israel faced massive public demonstrations and official condemnations from around the world last week for the recent brutal assault by its navy on the “freedom flotilla.” When the dust settled on the attack, 9 peaceful activists including a teenage American had been murdered by Israeli commandos.
The crime committed by these activists and their ships was that they attempted to break the Israeli blockade of Gaza and deliver much needed food, medical supplies and building material to the besieged Palestinian population.
Just in case you missed it, the Israeli Zionists have been holding the 1.5 million Palestinians in the Gaza under a state of siege since 2006 denying them all but minimal amounts of food, medicines and building material. They have imposed a naval blockade which prevents humanitarian groups and other nations from aiding the Palestinians.
As a result of the Israeli actions, Palestinians (men, women and children) are dying, the unemployment rate stands near 40 percent and over 90 percent of the businesses which once operated in the area have been shut down.
The siege and blockade were imposed because the Palestinians in Gaza did the unthinkable thing of exercising their democratic rights. On January 25, 2006 they voted to oust Mahmoud Abbas and his Fatah Party. In their place, they elected Hamas – a militant organization opposed by both Israel and the United States.
You see, Abbas is America’s “Palestinian Uncle Tom.” The U.S. and Israel want him as head of the Palestinian Authority because he is the type of “moderate” they can control and with which they can reach a “peace” deal.”
Thus, when the Palestinians ousted Abbas and elected Hamas, Israel – with U.S. complicity – decided to punish them. That punishment included keeping the Palestinians in a state of near-starvation in order to break their will and end their support for Hamas.
Some outspoken Israelis even admitted that starving the Palestinians into submission was the aim of the blockade. Dov Weisglass, adviser to former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert infamously said, "The idea is to put the Palestinians on a diet, but not to make them die of hunger."
In other words, the aim was to keep the Palestinians so weak and desperate that they could no longer resist the 43-year-old Israeli occupation of their land. What the Israelis are currently doing to the Palestinian people amounts an evil brutality long banned by international law. It is illegal and immoral. It was this immorality that the “freedom flotilla” was trying to break. Nine of its members were killed for their efforts.
There will never be peace in the Middle East as long as the Israelis are allowed to continue their current brutal policies.
But do not listen to me! Read the words written by progressive Jewish American writer Rob Kall in response to the attack on the “freedom flotilla: ”I am a Jew and I am outraged and ashamed by the acts Israel has perpetrated …I am a Jew who knows right from wrong … The Israeli leadership have become psychopaths without conscience.”
However, as would be expected given the power of the Jewish lobby in America, the Obama administration only expressed regrets about what had happened and called for an investigation. This means that the rabid, right-wing Israeli leadership will feel comfortable carrying out more acts of brutality and starvation policy. Reportedly, Obama has begun pressuring Israel to end its illegal blockade. We will see what happens.
