Poetry: How do you love someone who doesn't love you?

by Wahidabi Sulaiman

Loneliness is nothing new to me

Before you came into my life I was lonely

I was wasting my time and life away

Reading worthless romance and wishing away

That someday my knight in shining armour would come

And sweep me off my feet far away

Like Ariel, Snow White and other princesses in fairy tales

I was wishing away

Yes, loneliness is nothing new to me

Then you came along

Everything I wanted my knight to be I saw in you

You made me feel special

Made me wonder how I had lived so long without you

Your gentleness, your charisma, your voice

Everything was perfect, just like I always wanted it to be

Then I met your special someone I wondered if I could ever be the one

I was alone again!

Yes, loneliness is nothing new to me

But this time it was different...Very different!

I couldn’t hate you for you never made any promises

Did you even know I longed for your presence?

How I wish I had conveyed my love

How I wish I was more sober than start-eyed

Oh! I feel so lonely

Before, the loneliness was sweet

I had someone to look forward to in my dreams

Now, the loneliness is killing

I know my dream...it’s over.
