Vegetarianism is a healthy lifestyle, but it's also a way of life for most vegetarians, as most care passionately about animals and the environment.
Though vegetarianism is still ridiculed by many carnivores, you do wonder why. Maybe it's that often negative human reaction of fearing things that are different. Vegetarians are seen as easy targets, when most should be respected by society for their compassion.
Vegetarianism is Compassionate
Meat, poultry, fish, for example, always ends up on someone's plate through a living being losing its life. Paradoxically, a large proportion of meat eaters feel bad about that, but put the idea, of a dead creature dying to feed them, at the back of their minds. It's the one way that they can carry on eating meat. So, is it that vegetarians are resented because they are making some carnivores feel guilty?
There are other reasons, relating to animal welfare, why vegetarians don't eat meat, including factory farming, which still exists all over the world, and the live transportation of animals, which also causes immense suffering. Vegetarians are no reasons for this cruelty, so that's a pretty good reason for going veggie. The one area in which vegetarians do fail to impress sometimes, is when they are sometimes not vocal enough in advocating their lifestyle, and the reasons behind their lifestyle choice.
Vegetarians are mostly healthy people, which is a good advert for vegetarianism. There'd also be, with more vegetarians in society, less of a strain on hospitals, who are often treating illnesses which could have been avoided with a healthier lifestyle.
Vegetarianism Protects the Rainforests and Oceans
The resources of the planet are often damaged because of the desire to produce meat, and the Amazon rainforest has been badly damaged with land being taken over and used as pasture for cattle. The oceans have also been badly depleted by the human population's love of fish. So much so, that some species of fish may become extinct very soon.
It's not too difficult to find tasty alternatives to meat these days. It really isn't, and quite apart from the thought that the meal you are eating didn't come as the result of a living creature losing its life, you will be helping the planet at the same time.
Vegetarianism is a personal choice, but if people see that you are healthy and happy, then maybe they'll be inspired enough to follow your example. Sometimes one doesn't need to say anything. Vegetarians are often portrayed as miserable, and worrying about everything. But, that's not a true depiction of most veggies. Helping the world feels good.
