How to make your own herbal preparations

Making your own herbal beauty preparations allows you to know exactly what ingredients are in the creams you are using on your skin. Many commercial beauty products are full of harmful chemicals which penetrate the skin with each use. This causes our body the same harm as if we were to put these same substances in our mouth since they are absorbed into the body through the pores in our skin. These natural recipes are easy to  make. Try different ones to find those that work best for you and your skin type.

For an excellent basic cleansing cream: You will need 2 tablespoons of beeswax, 2 ounces of lanolin, 2 tablespoons of a herbal infusion water ( the recipe for this is listed below ), 3/8 cup of olive oil, 1/8 ounce of a scented oil if you desire. First melt the beeswax in a double boiler on low heat. Add the olive oil as soon as this has melted. Remove this from the heat and add your preferred scented oil. Be sure to keep stirring until the mixture has cooled. The liquid will thicken and become creamy. Store this a jar that has a screw-top lid. This cream can be used to clean the face. Simply apply a small amount to the face and massage. Apply a hot cloth over the face. Rinse the cloth in hot water as it begins to cool. Be sure to do this several times. Use a clean tissue to remove any traces of the cleanser. Use the herbal infusion as a skin toner.

To make the herbal infusion: Pour 1 1/4 cups of boiling water over the desired herb. With any of the herbs, use 3 to 4 tablespoons of fresh herbs or 1 tablespoon of dried herbs. Steep this for 30 minutes and strain the mixture. Store the mixture in a container that has a screw-top and place it in the refrigerator. This will keep for about one week. Use the infusion cold. This tonic has a number of beneficial effects, depending on the herb used and your skin condition. Chamomile works to tone up relaxed muscles and tighten the skin. Fennel used as an infusion of the leaves and seeds will clear up spots on the skin. Lemon balm does an excellent job with smoothing wrinkles. Mints are an excellent astringent. Rosemary does well with tightening any sagging skin. Comfrey mixed with witch hazel is an excellent tonic to get rid of wrinkles. Thyme helps to clear up acne.  You should notice results with the first application. Use this infusion two times per week for the best results.

The next preparations are for specific skin problems. To get rid of wrinkles try lemon balm. To make this pour 1 pint of boiling
