For Those Who Kept Her Free
If you took the red stripes,
Off all the flags,
Flying over America,
Would there be enough stripes,
To absorb the blood,
Of those who kept her free ?
If you took the white stripes,
Off all the flags,
Flying over America,
Would there be enough cloth,
To wipe the brow,
Of those who kept her free?
If you took the blue field,
Off all the flags,
Flying over America,
Would it be large enough,
To hold the tears,
Of those who kept her free?
And...
If you took all the stars,
Off all the flags,
Flying over America,
Would there be a star,
One for each soul,
Of those who kept her free?
Could it be,
There should be,
More flags flying over America,
For those who kept her free?
...since the writing of this work, it has been dedicated to Terry Sasek,
a wounded Viet Nam vet that I have met through poetry. A hero of
ours.

Poetry: Memorial Day
Brave young sergeant
So young, so beautiful
It's the night before deportation
And he's thinking hard.
Brave young wife
So young,
DRESS BLUES
His uniform, it gathers dust,
And yet she keeps it, as she must.
For since she heard the word, bereft,
It's all

A Memorial Wreath ~
A poetic wreath I weave today
For those who've gone before us.
Come join me now - become a part
Of this
Standing on the hill
Overlooking the cemetery
The many tombs embellished
With red, white and blue emblems
Stand in eternal
by Stushie
Memorial Day Sonnet
If Liberty means anything to me,
I will remember what my freedom cost,
By those who gave their all to keep
