Ever wonder why you or people you know can't stick to exercise or a particular program. There are a number of excuses for this. We've all have made them or heard them. You know-everything from time, other committments, injury, boredom, the dog ate my gym shorts, and the list go on and on!
The very fact is that society by and large view exercise as an afterthought or even a fad. That is-exercising when they have nothing to do, New Year's Resolution, getting ready for a vacation, etc.
The fact is that anyone can stick to an exercise program. For starters, people should look at exercise as a lifestyle, people should also rank exercise higher on their priority list. Doing so will benefit other areasof one's life.
Some very basic tip for sticking to an exercise plan:
1.Pick a regimen-make a plan before you go to the gym or workout at home. If you plan your workout, that gives you something to look foward to plus you won't go bored.
2.Variety-cut down on the boredom. In other words, change your routine every couple weeks or so. Look in certain fitness magazines to find new articles on dieting, research or, for different workouts. Some people subscribe to different health & fitness magazines just to cut out the new exercise program for that issue.
3.Exercise enhances overall quality of life-remember this when you're sweating, or your legs are sore from a great workout. Physical fitness increases energy which can improve job performance, improve social life, improve spiritual awareness, can make you a better spouse and parent, make you more alert, and inspire you to make goals in other areas of your life.
4.Set Goals-speaks for itself. Even if it's to lose only 5 pounds, write it down. Enough Said!
5.Cut down on exercise time-most people try to workout for an hour perhaps three days per week for example. For people who are pressed for time-this can be difficult. If you workout at the gym or at home for an hour-change the duration for your workout instead to 30 minutes, 20 minutes, or even 15 minutes. There are people (average citizens) who workout seven days per week. That is they exercise one (1) body part per day. For instance, that person on Monday will workout for 20 minutes performing only chest exercises. Tuesday's workout for that same person may be shoulders for 20 minutes. You get the point. It doesn't take much.
Remember-exercise is a lifestyle that benefits every aspect of your life!
