Investments are valuable, costly and sometimes, risky. Mentoring becomes the protocol for human investments. You can impress someone from from away, but to imprint someone, you must leave a piece of yourself. We are tempted to say all people are worth the investment and people are, by nature, always a worthy investment. However, when I think of this question as purely personal, I get excited just thinking there might be someone out there who would deem me precious enough to sift through my personality, skills, experiences, education and motivations to create the best that could be. I am a woman of great worth because God has already invested in my life by giving me life, by offering all that He is to my availability, not my abilities, but my openness to realize the gifting. I think it is possible we get caught up in the interviewing process of life. Who are we and why do we want to do this job on earth? We lose sight of the fact we have been granted much by whose we are and more still, by our teachable spirit. Often, we allow ourselves to be limited by things that are just open doors. Recently, my husbands company put cameras in their trucks. There are strict new disciplines to acquire. He will be a better driver because of them even though he hasn't had a wreck in twenty years. This camera is their investment in his safety and it will pay off for him and for them. That is the best of investing.
In thinking of myself, I believe I have several interesting talents, spiritual gifts and callings that open up my portfolio for investments. I have watched those shows of makeovers and wondered what a moment like that would be like...if it were me. I don't need a new nose, but I sure could use a door of influence, powerful understanding of my calling and a sketch for the future in best using what I have been given. I remember once talking to a literary agent. She was a strong, funny and loving Jewish woman who was out to get me a screenplay. She once told me I needed more moxie, then she had to explain what that meant and I realized I just might need some help with moxie. We all have those gaps in the pieces we have put together that I think would benefit from someone coming through our life door and saying " Ok, here's what we're going to do". I realize in some instances, that might mean tearing down some walls, reworking some old wiring and changing the floor planof my life, but I could just imagine it now!
My life would change if just one
