Quick Verdict: A very useful note taking program, using text, photos, web pages, voice clips and documents. Accompanies the website evernote.com, a very good free application, a must for anyone who uses evernote.com and I’d recommend giving it a try if you haven’t yet!
What it does:
Evernote is a versatile ‘digital notebook’ when you open the program it gives you a choice between a voice clip, Camera roll or text note. If you select text note it allows you to select which ‘notebook’ you put it into and attach tags to it so you can find it with a search.
The ability to separate your notes into separate notebooks is particularly useful, for example I have a notebook for my university, which contains copies of all the documents from my first year and things like tenancy agreements. A very good use for this is holiday planning, you can create a notepad for your holiday and add copies of all your emails and letters of booking info to it, as well as clippings of maps using the screen shot feature in the iPhone/iPod touch, I planned and organized a short break to London using this!
There are 4 tabs along the bottom of the program; new note (which creates a new note), notes (which take you to a list of all of your notes), favorites (which takes you to your favorite notes) and sync, which synchronizes evernote with your evernote.com account so your changes are also available to view on any computer with an internet connection.
Under the ‘notes’ tab there are two options at the top of the screen, the one that looks like a pin in a map shows the location of you when you posted your notes. This is a great feature when taking photos on holiday, to remind you what the photo is and where you were when you took it.
The other is an information symbol and by tapping that you get the option to sort your notes by: date created, date updated, title, notebook title, city or country. There is also a quick scroll bar invisible on the right side of the screen that allows you to skip through, just like when moving through your songs.
If you select the same symbol when on the map mode as described above this info button is in the same place and allows you to switch map modes between map, hybrid and satellite imagery.
With a free membership at evenote.com you are allowed a limit of 40mb of notes to be uploaded every month. Under the sync tab, it tells you how much of this you have
