iPhone App Review: Lux Touch
Cost: $0 Overall rating: 4/5
Quick Verdict: A brilliant free game; quick, simple yet addictive. Based on a classic board game Risk, a must have for any fans of the classic world conquering game!
Game-play:
Lux Touch for the iPhone and iPod touch is a simple yet addictive 'take-over-the-world' board game, very similar to the board game Risk. The opening screen of the game gives you a map of the world with each continent split up into 42 territories. The game begins within 5 seconds of opening the app, so no long winded adverts like other free apps.
As the player your default color is blue and the game automatically divides up the territories between you and 4 computer controlled players: Green, Red, Black and Yellow. You then get dealt 25 'troops' or 'units' each and they are placed in your territories at random and the number of units in each area is shown by a number in the area (the area will be the same colour as the team that controls it).
When it is your turn you can place upto 3 units in any of your territories by pressing them, once you have placed all your troops it is your turn to attack, you do this by pressing on your area then onto one which borders it, you will then fight until you stop pressing or all of your/enemy troops are killed. If you win the fight you take the territory, the aim of the game is to conquer the world!
You get a bonus for owning entire continents, for example owning the whole of North America gives you an extra 5 troops to place at the start of each turn. A full list of the bonus's available are shown on the start up screen but i will list them below:
North America: 5 extra troops per turn
South America: 2 extra troops per turn
Asia: 7 extra troops per turn
Europe: 5 extra troops per turn
Africa: 3 extra troops per turn
Australia: 2 extra troops per turn
Sometimes when you invade a territory you will win a game card which can be collected and exchanged for troops, the game will tell you when you are able to trade in your cards, as the game goes on the bonuses available from this get greater and greater. The game play is smooth and fast, no 3 hour games like in the board game risk, a game is over in 10 - 15 minutes. It is very good for a free game and very rare to find one with no advertising!
Disadvantages:
* Can get repetitive after 2 or 3 games, not something you would play for weeks on end, but something i have had installed for well over a year now, and i still go back to
