Poetry: Sad goodbyes

by J.L. McKenzie

Created on: June 03, 2010

We said goodbye with words

But never in our hearts

What we were working towards

Was nothing

But dust in my hands

Was I more

Than just a piece of flesh

In your eyes

More than just a girl

But a woman

To say goodbye

On such a day

Beauty surrounded me

Not touching

The misery inside

You tried to pacify me

Telling me

That you still loved me

Then why break my heart

Why is it over

Look what you’ve done

To me

A hollow shell

Of a once

Whole person

Saying goodbye

With tears in my eyes

You held me tight

With lifeless arms

Not caring about my pain

You took all

Of my heart

And now

I have nothing left

To give
