The very first step to becoming wise is being humble.
You cannot acquire wisdom if you think to highly of yourself. You will not be inclined to learn more if you think you already know it all. If you realize how little you know compare to what there is to be learned only then can you aspire to more wisdom. No matter how much you have experienced in your life and no matter how old you are, your wisdom is still but a spec of what you could achieve. Think of wisdom as limitless.
The second step is to be inquiring, be curious.
Feel the need to know who, what, when, why and where. Recognize that the smallest of things in this world is a marvel and let it arouse your interest.
The third step is to be a good listener.
Really take-in information and reflect upon it no matter how insignificant it might seem at the time. Don't let anything go by unnoticed. Every spoken word is of value. Even if you totally disagree with what is being said, you can still wonder why this person thinks this way and gain wisdom from it.
The fourth step is to act. Involve yourself in your surrounding. Be willing to try doing anything that you physically can. Do not shy away from any activity.
The fifth step is to learn from your mistakes. Do not discard something you have failed at without consideration. Take time to evaluate the reason for the failure then decide whether you could have done better. Then learn how to avoid that type of mistake in the future.
The sixth step is to read.
Books are full of wisdom and knowledge. Fill your mind with the experience of others. Open yourself to as many living thought as you can.
The seventh step is to be in touch with your inner self.
Never take for granted what you heard, read or saw. Absorb every detail and integrate it with who you are. Remember that someone more educated, older or more famous does not necessarily make him wiser. Know that in the depth of your soul, God is there and He is Wisdom Itself. Let God build your wisdom.
