Greens, blues and purples are cool colours for the quiet sophisticate. They convey a serious mood and reflect a calm, natural and elegant style. Emotionally they express a serene and peaceful state of mind. These are the qualities that make the cool palette my favourite colour combination.
Reds, oranges and yellows are warm colours for the lively extrovert. They convey a vivacious mood, and reflect a sensual, active and carefree style. Emotionally they express an energetic and free spirit.
There's a strong relationship between colour and light. Without light the human eye is unable to see colour. This is a simple fact, and is an important observation. For example, if you entered a dimly lit room, it would be difficult for you to make out various objects. Throughout the centuries this theory has been tested and proven by scientists and physicists alike. Since Sir Isaac Newton first discovered that colour was shattered light in the 1660s, physicists have developed a clearer understanding of how light relates to colour. Ultimately they concluded that light is a form of energy, which they called electromagnetic radiation. When moving at a constant speed in the form of a pulsation or wave, each colour that is contained within the white light has its own wavelength and frequency. As a result, the individual colours within the white light appear according to their wavelength order, and are reflected back to the human eye; allowing the human eye to perceive colour.
The colours that the eyes see are very important when selecting choices for an image and fashion styling project. Everyone perceives colours differently and their appearance can either flatter features, or point out flaws. A few observations which need to be taken into consideration when choosing colours include; the individual's skin-tone, hair and eye colour, image, personality and the size of the individual, simultaneous contrast, the background setting and the type of occasion that the colours are to be worn. For example a young woman who has a fair complexion, slim figure and outgoing personality plans on going out with a few friends for a night of dining and dancing. Because of her porcelain skin-tone, dynamic personality, and svelte figure, even if she decided to wear a lime green and pink, car wash dress, she'd still look great! However she's attending a night-time party event with friends. A more appropriate choice of colour for her
