Poetry: Shattered

by Charmaine Lloyd

Created on: June 03, 2010

The crystal vase lies shattered,

shattered shards across the floor.

I screamed to you to save it,

smashed as you slammed love’s door.

We didn’t care to fix it,

patched cracks would have shown.

We left sharp crystal remnants,

in our suite so loved and known.

Memory’s room is off-limits,

we both moved on that day.

Boarded. Shuttered. Abandoned.

shards won’t stab our hearts this way.

You came by once to see me.

breaking the lock’s on lost love’s door.

Bloody cuts, piecing crystal puzzle,

… not our creation of before.

Shattered shards pierce shrieking soul,

that you expected to come back.

After you had dropped love's vase,

you didn’t mind kitsch cracks.

It’s time to do the cleanup,

sharp shards are swept away,

With love and tender memories,

our space fades with yesterday.
