Plastic-Crate Throne
Today I saw him behind the crates
That once made up his plastic throne
All his siblings, caught and placed
This fuzzy-black cat sits watch alone.
At night he might still hear the sounds
Of the one he loved...of better days...
The gentle voice of a man who spent
Two years gaining trust, with gentle praise.
Hospice-bed brought in, then taken out.
Strangers; tossing sacred things.
Watching from a nearby bush
He caught a glimpse of Angel wings.
Tomorrow his window will be sealed tight
The dumpster awaits his plastic-crate throne
All his tame siblings carefully placed
This one cat still hides, aloof and alone.
One more night he can enter his sanctum
To search for that man, who took in a stray.
And on his throne, he might hear that voice
Of praise and love. Of a better day.

My Best Friend
I helped to pick you out
But when we got you home
You caused such a fight
He said you had to go
It really wasn't

Man's Best Friend
Always there when I come home
Thrilled to see my face
Wanting just a playful touch
Not a long embrace
Patiently
Night Prowler
Silently, stalking through the night
Sniffing the air for that special scent
Turning corners cautiously
Mindful

Dear Molly, the best dog in the world
I've always wanted to give you a list
Of the amazing things that you are
So I can prove
My cat holds me responsible
for changes in the weather
He tells me all about it
every time that we're together.
"I must go out!
