Humor: Editors

Have you, like many other American’s, had a scary experience that you want to make into a horror movie? I am sure you have. Well, the deal is, your movie idea probably isn’t that good. I, however, can help you out in this situation, for I have the knowledge of the HORROR MOVIE WRITER. Pretty neat title, huh? In this essay, I am going to teach you, the lower-educated, less-talented reader, how to become an excellent writer of horror movies.

Step 1: Picking a plot line:
The first, and most important step is picking the right plot line for your movie. Now, you may be thinking “Hey, how about a story where a big monster comes and invades the town and kills people and-“ well slow down there crazy man, and take a few breaths. That plot is overused and out of date. Plot lines that are out of date and plain out stupid are: monster movies (Godzilla, Gremlins), movies where someone has a split-personality and they are the killer (Hide and Seek), ghost movies with the aforementioned plot (The Sixth Sense, The Others), and Zombie movies (Dawn of the Dead, The Night of the Living Dead). In fact, the only ones that are in right now, are the famous ‘stupid teenagers get chased and killed one by one by a mysterious killer’ movies. Being that they are so famous, you will write one of these. So, now that you have the basic idea, time for a plot. A High School in some town you never heard of…Lesterville. Everyone in Lesterville is rich, and has houses in the middle of nowhere. Five teens are friends there, in a group. A killer is on the loose, OH NO! There you go, that is your plot line and if you can’t comprehend this, it’s time to quite now. On to step 2!

Step 2: The characters:
Like stated in the previous paragraph, you have 5 main characters, sometimes 6 is permissible, but no more. Ok, so first you have the jock. He is an asshole and doesn’t care about anything but sports and sex. Next the jocks girlfriend, who doesn’t seem to care about anything but cheerleading and sex. Third you have the innocent, nice girl who doesn’t like sex and is more concerned with her studies. This will be your lead character. Give her a name like Sarah or Sydney. Next is her boyfriend, who is bent on having sex with her and is ONLY concerned with this fact. Because he is so hell bent on having sex with her, he will go as far as to risk his life, all for sex; he is also the pretty boy of the group, make a note of that. Fifth,
