The football leagues, i.e. leagues one and two, have been prevalent within the sport of football for many a year now within the United Kingdom often renamed to due sponsorship deals changing. Football, traditionally a working class game was developed during the 1800's deriving from mob football in which limitless teams often whole villages kicked an early form of ball around, often a pigs bladder. Obviously the sport has come a long way and developed into the game both players of all abilities and fans nowadays know and love .
Living in the United Kingdom within the city of Lincoln, the options for supporting "local" premier league sides are somewhat slim, not only due to the cities geographical location, but the quality of local sides are far from the dizzying heights of the Premiership. Those with the slightest ounce of footballing knowledge would have noticed by now that my city itself contains a footballing league two side, Lincoln City, of which I am an avid supporter.
This alone leads me onto my first point as to why the football league has more to offer than the premiership. Not all fans have the disposable income or time available to travel to a premier league game let alone afford the ranging, sometimes astronomical ticket prices. Given the opportunity I'm sure football fans would jump at the chance to see the premierships top flight week in week out. see games.
The majority of players wish to play at the highest level possible, ultimately their aim or dream is often the highest league possible dependent upon their ability. But what about the players who are deemed to have insufficient ability to maintain playing at such a high standard? In order to keep earning a wage and playing often their only option is to drop in either one of the football leagues, offering them a new lease of life and the potential to continue their career. This is wide spread throughout football within the United Kingdom for example at my local club players who fail to make first team performances in the premier league regularly get scouted and are often given contracts. This has so much benefit for not only the club due to their experiences of working with a higher club but also the fans who crave to see better players brought into their club offering more excitement. Their have been numerous occasions where players considered to once be at the top of their game have become to old and wish to continue playing, a fine example being Paul Gascoigne dropping down the leagues and becoming player/manager for Boston United. This offered the club, fans and town of Boston the opportunity for much development.
The excitement of arriving at the ground on match day not knowing the outcome of the match is also another reason as to why the football league has more to offer. Personally I would rather watch Lincoln City than travel all the way down to London to watch Chelsea win another game, the probability of which is somewhat high.
In conclusion, the football leagues offer something for everyone, is available to all and you are guaranteed to see an edge of the seat match due to the equally matched abilities of each team.
