With the current economic climate, many people are looking for ways they can save money. Some people take on financial advisors, some make drastic cut backs and others even sell their possessions just so they can save some money. There are many areas of life where we can all save money and one important area is that of saving on the cost of electricity. The prices of electricity are steadily rising but it’s something that we can’t do without. So just how can we lower our electric bills? Well now follow a few simple tips on how to save money on electricity.
Turn Off The Lights - This sounds simple, but how many of us leave lights on when we are not in the room? Make it a habit to turn off lights when we leave a room. Some rooms have a few lights, do we need them all on? Can we just use a table lamp or the wall lights? We don’t want to go back to using candles but it’s good to think about how many lights we have on.
Don’t Leave Appliances On Standby - Many modern day appliances have standby settings. These don’t use a massive amount of power but they do use some. If you have several items on standby all at once it soon mounts up. Unplug your TV, computer and other electrical items when they are not in use, doing this will save you a great deal of electricity.
Turn Off The Air Conditioning - Many modern houses spend a fortune of A/C. Sometimes we do need it on but most of the time we can manage with out it. It is much cheaper to have a ceiling fan and can often be just as effective. Air conditioning uses a huge amount of power and is really something we don’t always need to have on.
Use Florescent Lighting - These save a great deal of energy. You may not want to use them in every room in the house, but those rooms you don’t spend large amounts of time in would be perfect for installing these cheap alternatives.
Be Practical - The appliances that tend to use massive amounts of energy are things like dryers, or dish washers. Yet these are things that we don’t really need to use. Often we can hang our clothes out on the line to dry, or we can hand wash the dishes, doing this may take a little more time but it will save us massive amounts of electricity. Always think before you use appliances like this.
Don’t Be Wasteful - When using some appliances think about waste. For instance, why use your washing machine for a half load? Make sure it’s full before you use it. The same goes for if you insist in
