Best store-bought gluten-free bread

There are many reasons people are choosing to buy gluten free bread these days.  The primary reason for the choice is celiac diseaseCeliac disease sufferers cannot tolerate a protein called gluten.  The problem?  Gluten is found in wheat, rye, barley, oats and spelt.  That doesn't leave many ingredients left to make bread from!  Other reasons why people may purchase gluten free bread is due to gluten intolerance which is different than celiac disease, autism, food allergies and food sensitivities.  Compared to a decade ago, there are more than twice as many choices out there for those desiring or having no choice but to eat gluten free bread. The top companies producing gluten free bread are The Grainless Baker and Food for Life.

The Grainless Baker was started in 2001 by Jane Trygar whose family had been in the bakery business since 1979.  After she was diagnosed with celiac disease, she could no longer eat what her family was creating.  Jane decided, with the help of her husband the chef, to create a gluten free line of bakery goods.  The Grainless Baker offers four different breads - Sandwich Bread, Mock Rye Bread, Sun Dried Tomato Bread and Cinnamon Raisin Bread. A really nice thing about this bread is that it really looks like home baked.  The slices are hardy and the texture is fairly fluffy for having no gluten in it.  The flavors are truly gourmet!  No reason you should have boring bread!  The Sun-Dried Tomato bread makes a great grilled cheese/panini sandwich and the Cinnamon Raisin Bread is fantastic for French toast

The only drawback to The Grainless Baker is some of their ingredients.  They only bake with all natural ingredients, but those on special diets such as those with autism or food allergies need to stay away from this brand.  They bake with sugar, honey, corn starch, potato flour, eggs and milk.  If you only suffer from celiac disease, this bread is the way to go.  The breads all come frozen which is nice because you don't have to worry about them going bad.   All you do is take out the pieces you want to use and they thaw out pretty quickly.  You may also put the frozen bread right in the toaster or, if you prefer, you can simply keep it in the refrigerator. Prices range from $5.66-6.10 per loaf.  You can find what stores carry their products or order directly from them on their website.
