Oh for the days when married TV couples slept in separate beds and the word sex was taboo unless speaking of gender. Nowadays they are showing practically everything. There are television shows about blind dates where two strangers make out like they've been dating for six months. Gone are the days of double entendres and less is more. Nowadays on some channels they are allowed to say anything after a certain hour at night.
There are commercials for porn channels or girls gone wild videos right there during a normal movie you might be watching with your kids. Commercials are the worst offenders but certainly not alone. As the saying goes, sex sells. It doesn't matter if it's a commercial for lipstick or beer or even coffee. Everywhere you look there are scantily clad women or suggestive remarks or both. If the audience of yesteryear were to see the television of today they would be shocked to say the least.
Not that we should go back to the days of censorship where you weren't even allowed to use the word pregnant and in TV land babies just appeared in a family from out of nowhere but it's starting to get ridiculous how much they are getting away with. There isn't a show you can tune into that has stimulating adult humor without getting rank nowadays. There are also too many adult cartoons coming out. If kids see an ad for a cartoon they assume it's something they might be allowed to see. There are cartoons with blood violence and sex in them and they are just getting worse.
In this day and age where almost every family has a TV and kids are allowed to watch it longer than ever you would think there would be more regulations on what was acceptable instead of less. It just goes to show that even the pretense of morals and values is a thing of the past. It's hard to believe that things could get any worse than they are right now. Considering what they allow to be shown on Television, even prime time network channels. They are coming out with complicated devices which can block what your children watch so that you can watch anything you want after they are put to bed but is it really good for us to be exposed to all this sexual stimulation? Have we become numb to it?
In these days of instant gratification where nothing seems sacred it's just become par for the course. We all blindly accept that times are changing but it's because of all this emphasis on physical beauty that more girls than ever have poor body images and eating disorders. Maybe if we regulated TV a little more or cared a little less about having a perfect body or perfectly pouty lips or seductive eyes our daughters would follow in our footsteps and care more about what's on the inside and work on that.
