UFC 115 preview: Chuck Liddell vs. Rich Franklin

UFC 115 Chuck Liddell vs Rich Franklin is an interesting fight card with a combination of MMA legends along with up and coming super stars. The main event was initially supposed to be Chuck Liddell renewing his grudge match against Tito Ortiz, but Ortiz had to withdraw due to a major surgery. The UFC was quick to find a replacement for him in former middle weight champion Rich Franklin.

Both fighters are coming off of losses in their last fight and are looking to get back in the win column. Liddell though, is looking to prove that his career is not over after losing three of his past four fights including back to back losses.

Both fighters are former champions with numerous fights coming by way of knockout, so I would expect this will be another slug fest. If there is an edge on the ground it would have to go to Franklin, but Liddell's take down defense is better than anyone else in the game today.

Any fighter has a chance, but it would seem Liddell is past his prime and Franklin should be able to dominate this fight on his way back to the win column.

Another veteran on the main card is Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic who is taking on the relatively new Pat Barry. Barry only has 6 professional fights in his career compared to 35 by Cro Cop, but his aggressive and never give up style will make for an entertaining fight.

Cro Cop is also towards the end of his career looking to prove he is still a top ten heavyweight, but will likely not be able to match up with Pat Barry this time around.

Another interesting fight on the main card is Carlos Condit vs Rory MacDonald. MacDonald is only 21 years old and this will be his second UFC fight at his young age.

Carlos Condit is also young, but a veteran of 29 professional fights. Condit's experience will simply be too much for MacDonald, but look for MacDonald's well rounded MMA skills to present a challenge to Condit.

There are a total of 11 fights during this event, including 2 that will be televised live for free on Spike TV. Mac Danzig and Tyson Griffin each have fights during this televised event which could determine their next steps in the light weight division. A win for Griffin could mean a title shot, whereas a loss for Danzig could mean being cut by the UFC.

This is the UFC's first trip to Vancouver and the second province in Canada that they have hosted a pay per view event in. This card is surely worth watching and appears that most fights will not go the distance.
