How not controlling your temper affects your career

There are many ways that not controlling a temper can affect a person’s career. If a person does not have control over their temper, they will be less likely to be promoted because their employer will not feel that they are worth investing in. Many times, this happens because customers are not capable of trusting an employee to handle their needs without becoming emotionally or verbally abusive. This is not in the best interest of any company because if a customer does not feel valued during their experience with the company, there is the potential to lose them as a customer.

It is extremely important to remember that a person that cannot control their temper will also have trouble connecting with their coworkers. This can lead to divisions within the office if other people that are working for the company do not feel that the working environment is a healthy one. This will lead to more work for the individual that cannot control their temper because other employees are not comfortable helping them because those employees will be criticized. Often there will be a reduction in their earning potential of a person that cannot control their temper in the workplace.

This happens because promotions are not given to individuals that do not represent the company well. If a person cannot control their temper at work, they will have trouble finding future employment if they try to leave the company. Positive references are only given to employees that are capable of being an asset to the organization they are working for. It is extremely unlikely that an employer will give a decent reference to an employee that they are constantly having to reprimand over disciplinary issues. Employees that have issues with their temper will also have difficulty formulating social relationships with both clients of the business and fellow employees.

When this is a major issue, the individual that has trouble with their temper will feel socially isolated most of the time. An employee that has trouble with their temper will also have difficulty learning new job-related responsibilities and obligations. This is because they do not have the patience necessary to learn new skills in a beneficial fashion to the company. This can result in management not wanting to be of assistance to the employee when they have personal issues outside of the workplace. Not controlling the temper can lead to meeting to find work from multiple employers because the job history of the individual is not solid.
