Learn the chains that bind you,
And set yourself free.
Run from the chains that held you back,
And discover who you are.
Study the noose that strangles you,
And set yourself free.
Run from the noose that hung you painfully,
And discover who you are.
Know the gag that silences you,
And set yourself free.
Run from the gag that forced you silent,
And discover who you are.
Understand the bars that imprison you,
And set yourself free.
Run from the bars that held you hostage,
And discover who you are.
Take a long hard look at the bridge that scares you,
The one you’re on that leads to nowhere good.
It leads to someplace other than yourself.
Take a long hard look at the cold water below,
The rippling, cleansing waters.
It takes you in its current to someplace new.
Climb up on the railing of the bridge that scares you,
Look back at the bridge that leads to where you can’t be you,
Look at the soothing waters below,
That lead you to somewhere better.
Swallow your fear and jump.
Jump off the bridge that has your chain and your noose,
Your gag and your bars and the path to nowhere.
Jump and feel the healing waters cleanse you.
Relax and let the current take you,
Take you to anywhere but where you were,
Somewhere bigger than you.
Where the current washes you ashore,
There will be Jesus waiting to take your hand.
Trust me, I swear.

A tiny hand thrust deep in mine,
Eyes upturned; trusting eyes, that shine
With tiny tears I brush away
And kiss,
A tangled web of deception
You wove knowing full well
The pain these lies would cause
When eventually the truth did tell
